Google Ads payment rules

Summarised from Google’s own help pages on 28 Oct 2026. Rules change, so open the source before you rely on it.

Payment methods
Credit and debit cards almost everywhere, plus, depending on the country, direct debit (21 countries), PayPal (11), money transfer, and local methods such as UPI and NetBanking (India), Pix (Brazil), GCash (Philippines), GoPay (Indonesia), FPX (Malaysia), LGU+ (South Korea) and BPAY (Australia).
Prepaid cards
Google does not accept prepaid cards for postpay. Postpay charges your card after your ads run. Google’s pages don’t say whether prepaid cards work for prepay, which is offered in only some countries.
Billing currency
Some payment methods can’t be used with a currency other than your country’s official one. Payment thresholds vary by account, country and currency.
Card and country
Methods depend on your billing country, currency and payment setting. Google notes that some methods may be temporarily unavailable while it reviews an account’s eligibility.
Card checks
To confirm a payment method, Google may make a temporary charge of up to $1.95 USD; the last 6 digits of the charge are your code, and it’s refunded within 30 days. Card issuers in the EEA may also ask for a one-time code.
On your statement
In many cases your 10-digit Google Ads customer ID is shown on the bank statement.

Payment settings

Postpay, prepay or monthly invoicing

Your payment setting decides when Google charges you, and which methods you can use. Google offers each setting only in some countries.

Most accounts

Postpay

Formerly “automatic payments”. Ads run first, you pay after.

  • Charged when your costs reach your payment threshold, or on the first day of the month.
  • The threshold starts low and rises each time you reach it; Google’s example goes from $50 to $200.
  • Several charges in one month are normal for active accounts.
  • Google does not accept prepaid cards for postpay.
Google’s example Threshold $250, August spend $275: you pay $250 the day you cross it, then the remaining $25 on 1 September.
70 of 233 countries

Prepay

Formerly “manual payments”. You add funds, ads spend them.

  • Your ads run after the payment arrives; costs come out of that balance.
  • Google emails you when the balance is low, about a week of budget left.
  • A prepayment can take 24–48 hours, and bank transfers 2–5 business days, to show.
  • Not offered in the US, the UK, most of Europe, Australia, Japan, Pakistan or the UAE.
By application

Monthly invoicing

A line of credit from Google, paid against a monthly invoice.

  • Business registered for at least a year.
  • Google Ads account in good standing for at least 6 months.
  • At least $5,000 a month in any 3 of the last 12 months (varies by country).
  • Pay by cheque, bank transfer or another method, depending on location.

Step by step

How to pay for Google Ads with a Cardn3 card

  1. 1

    Get your card

Deposit crypto, buy a card, pay its activation deposit, and wait for the card details to appear in your Cardn3 dashboard.

    How buying works
  2. 2

    Open payment settings

    In Google Ads, go to

    BillingSettingsAdd a payment method
  3. 3

    Enter the card details

Type the card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing address shown with your card details, exactly as written.

  4. 4

    Cover every charge

On postpay the card must cover every threshold charge, which can come several times a month. On prepay, add funds before your ads run out.

Only users with Admin or Edit Payments access can change payment settings. On postpay, a backup credit card keeps ads running if the primary method fails; only credit cards can be a backup.

Troubleshooting

Why Google Ads declines a card, and what to do

A declined payment doesn’t take money from a Cardn3 card. Work through these in order.

  1. 1

    A prepaid card on postpay

Google doesn’t accept prepaid cards for postpay. Use a credit or debit card, or prepay if your country offers it.

  2. 2

Not enough funds, or a card limit

The card must cover the threshold charge in one go. Top it up or raise the limit, then retry the card in Google Ads. Billing › Summary shows the date, amount and, if available, the reason for a decline.

  3. 3

Too many charges in a period

Busy accounts can hit the threshold several times a month. A card that caps how many charges it accepts will be declined.

  4. 4

Card not allowed online or abroad

The issuing bank must allow internet and international payments. Ask the bank, or use a card that does.

  5. 5

Wrong number, CVV or an expired card

Re-enter the card details carefully, or add a new card.

  6. 6

Your bank doesn’t support Strong Customer Authentication

In the EEA, Google needs card issuers that support SCA. If yours doesn’t, use another payment method.
