Paying for Netflix with a prepaid virtual card

Short answer

Yes. Netflix says it accepts prepaid Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, as long as they’re enabled for recurring online payments. Virtual cards are accepted only in select markets. You’re charged in the currency of the country you signed up in, so a card in that currency avoids conversion.

Netflix payment rules

Payment methods
Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit and debit cards that are enabled for recurring e-commerce payments. Other methods depend on your country.
Prepaid cards
We accept prepaid cards with the following logos. Those logos are Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Netflix also says it accepts virtual cards in select markets, and if a virtual card is declined you should choose a different payment method.
Billing currency
You’re charged in the currency of the country you signed up in until you cancel and rejoin. Netflix bills monthly; there are no yearly plans.
Card and country
Pricing, currency and payment methods vary by country. The error “This card is not supported in this territory” means the card isn’t accepted for Netflix there. You may need to enable international transactions.
Card checks
Some payment methods trigger a temporary authorisation to verify the card. It isn’t a charge, and your bank may take a few business days to drop it.

Troubleshooting

Why Netflix declines a card, and what to do

A declined payment doesn’t take money from a Cardn3 card. Work through these in order.

  1. 1

    Not enough balance

The card must cover the monthly price. A temporary authorisation hold can also reduce the balance for a few days, so keep a little extra on the card.

  2. 2

    “Not supported in this territory”

The card isn’t accepted for Netflix in that country. Netflix asks you to choose a different payment method.

  3. 3

    Recurring or online payments blocked

Netflix only takes cards enabled for recurring e-commerce. Ask support if your card allows recurring charges before you add it.

  4. 4

    Wrong details

Check the expiry date, CVC and billing postcode against your card details, correct them on the Manage payment info page and retry.

  5. 5

A virtual card declined in your market

Netflix accepts virtual cards in select markets only. If yours is declined, Netflix says to choose a different payment method.
