Paying for ChatGPT with a prepaid virtual card
OpenAI’s help centre lists credit and debit cards for ChatGPT and does not say whether prepaid cards work for Plus or Pro. It does say prepaid cards can’t buy API credits. Your card must also be issued in a country OpenAI supports, so check that list before you pay.
ChatGPT payment rules
Summarised from OpenAI’s own help pages on 28 Oct 2026. Rules change, so open the source before you rely on it.
- Payment methods
- Credit and debit cards on chatgpt.com, plus local methods in some countries (for example UPI in India, Pix in Brazil, GCash in the Philippines). Plans bought in the iPhone or Android app are billed by Apple or Google.
- Prepaid cards
-
Prepaid cards cannot be used to purchase API credits—only standard credit or debit cards are supported.
That rule is for API credits. For ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscriptions, OpenAI’s pages don’t mention prepaid cards. - Billing currency
- On the web, ChatGPT shows local pricing in about 70 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, KRW, INR and TRY. API credits are bought in US dollars.
- Card and country
- Your card must be issued by a bank in a country OpenAI supports, and you must be in a supported country yourself.
- Card checks
- Complete any 3D Secure prompt from the card issuer. OpenAI’s decline guide suggests allowing pop-ups and turning off ad blockers and VPNs.
- Where to change the card

How buying works -
2
Open payment settings
In ChatGPT, go to
SettingsBilling -
3
Enter the card details
Type the card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing address shown with your card details, exactly as written.
-
4
Cover every charge
Keep enough balance on the card for each monthly renewal, including any tax shown at checkout.
Why ChatGPT declines a card, and what to do
A declined payment doesn’t take money from a Cardn3 card. Work through these in order.
-
1
Details or billing address don’t match
OpenAI’s first check is the card number, expiry, CVC and billing address including the postcode. Copy them from your Cardn3 dashboard exactly as written.
-
2
3D Secure wasn’t completed
Allow pop-ups, turn off ad blockers and VPNs, and finish the one-time code step without refreshing checkout. If it keeps failing, OpenAI suggests an incognito window or another browser.
-
3
The card’s country isn’t supported
OpenAI only accepts cards issued in its supported countries. Compare that list with the country shown in your card details before you buy.
-
4
Not enough balance
The card must hold the full plan price plus any tax. OpenAI says it usually doesn’t receive the bank’s exact decline reason, so check the balance first.
-
5
You were buying API credits
OpenAI does not accept prepaid cards for API credits. A Cardn3 card is prepaid, so use it for a ChatGPT plan, not for the API.

ChatGPT payment questions
Does ChatGPT accept prepaid cards?
For ChatGPT Plus and Pro, OpenAI’s help centre lists credit and debit cards and does not mention prepaid cards either way. For API credits it says prepaid cards cannot be used. If you are unsure, ask Cardn3 support before you buy a card.
Which country does my card need to be from?
OpenAI says your card must be issued by a bank in one of its supported countries, and purchases are only available in those countries. Check OpenAI’s supported countries page against the country in your card details.
Where do I change my card in ChatGPT?
On chatgpt.com, open Settings and select Billing. If you subscribed in the iPhone or Android app, the plan is billed by Apple or Google, so change the card there.
Can I pay for ChatGPT in Turkish lira or euros?
Yes, on the web. OpenAI’s multi-currency page lists local pricing in about 70 currencies, including TRY and EUR. A card in the same currency avoids a conversion on your side.
What does a Cardn3 card cost?
Card prices run from $100 to $350. A one-time $5 issue fee is included and the rest is loaded as card balance. There is no monthly fee. After purchase, each card type needs an activation deposit of $100–$200.
Ready to pay for ChatGPT?
One card, one price, no monthly plan. Pay with crypto and find the card details in your Cardn3 dashboard.
