Paying for Spotify Premium with a prepaid card
Spotify’s help pages don’t mention prepaid cards. They do set one firm rule: the card must be registered in the same country as your Spotify account and enabled for foreign, secure online and recurring payments. So pick a card from your account’s country.
Spotify payment rules
Summarised from Spotify’s own help pages on 28 Oct 2026. Rules change, so open the source before you rely on it.
- Payment methods
- Cards, plus PayPal, mobile carrier billing or Google Play billing depending on your country. Spotify gift cards are no longer sold, but bought ones can still be redeemed.
- Prepaid cards
- Not mentioned on Spotify’s payment pages.
- Card and country
- The payment method must be registered in the same country as your Spotify account, and enabled for foreign, secure online and recurring purchases.
- Card checks

Why Spotify declines a card, and what to do
A declined payment doesn’t take money from a Cardn3 card. Work through these in order.
-
1
Card from another country
Spotify needs a card registered in the same country as your account. Use a Cardn3 card from that country.
-
2
Recurring or foreign payments not enabled
The card must allow foreign, secure online and recurring purchases. Ask support about your card before you add it.
-
3
Not enough balance
The card must cover the monthly price including VAT. Spotify retries a failed payment over the next few days.

4
A checkout glitch
Spotify suggests entering the card again in a private or incognito window, or waiting a few hours and trying again.
