Can you pay for YouTube Premium with a prepaid card?
Usually not. YouTube’s help page names a prepaid card as an unsupported form of payment, and Google Play says it can’t be used with virtual credit cards. Accepted methods depend on your country; in North America YouTube lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Google’s help pages say: You’re trying to use an unsupported form of payment, such as a prepaid card.
A prepaid card is likely to be refused for a YouTube Premium membership. Ask Cardn3 support before you buy any card for it.
YouTube Premium payment rules
Summarised from Google’s own help pages on 28 Oct 2026. Rules change, so open the source before you rely on it.

- Payment methods vary by country and by where you subscribed (web, Google Play or Apple). In North America, YouTube lists American Express, Mastercard and Visa.

You’re trying to use an unsupported form of payment, such as a prepaid card.
YouTube gives this as the “Unsupported card type” decline. Google Play’s help page separately lists virtual credit cards among the payment types it can’t be used with. - Billing currency
- You may be billed in a currency other than your home country’s, depending on the Google service you buy through. VAT may apply in the EEA.
- Card and country
- In some countries you must use a form of payment issued in that country, and the postcode must match the card’s billing address.
- Card checks
- Google may place an authorisation hold to check a card. It isn’t a charge and lasts 1–14 business days, depending on the bank.

An expired card, or a CVC, expiry date or postcode that doesn’t match the bank’s records, is declined.
-
4
The membership is paused
If a payment fails and isn’t fixed in time, YouTube pauses the membership. Fix it from payments.google.com or your memberships page.
