Paying for iCloud and the App Store with a prepaid card
Apple’s support pages don’t mention prepaid cards. They say “most credit and debit cards” work in nearly every country listed, without naming which ones don’t. The card must be usable with your Apple Account’s country or region, and your billing details must match what the card issuer has on file.
Apple iCloud payment rules
Summarised from Apple’s own help pages on 31 Oct 2026. Rules change, so open the source before you rely on it.
- Payment methods
- Most credit and debit cards in nearly every listed country (most credit cards in Brazil). Apple Pay, PayPal, Apple Account balance and mobile phone billing depend on your country.
- Prepaid cards
- Not mentioned on Apple’s payment pages. Apple’s wording is “most” cards, so some aren’t accepted.
- Card and country
- The payment method must be one you can use with your Apple Account in its country or region. Apple says a method may also be declined in some places because of changes to local law.
- Card checks
- Some payment methods need verification through the issuer’s app or a text message. Apple may also ask you to verify your account with the provider.
- Where to change the card
- Settings → Your name → Payment & Shipping → Add Payment Method

In Apple iCloud, go to
SettingsYour namePayment & ShippingAdd Payment Method -
3
Enter the card details
Type the card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing address shown with your card details, exactly as written.
-
4
Cover every charge
A prepaid card can only pay what it holds. Keep enough balance for each charge, including tax and any currency conversion.
If you have an unpaid order, Apple may stop you making purchases or even downloading free apps until the balance is paid. Clear it first.
Why Apple iCloud declines a card, and what to do
A declined payment doesn’t take money from a Cardn3 card. Work through these in order.
-
1
Billing details don’t match
Apple says your name and billing address must match what the card issuer has on file. Enter them exactly as shown with your card.
-
2
Account set to another country
Use a payment method accepted in your Apple Account’s country or region. Apple’s fix for a mismatch is to change the account’s country or region.
-
3
An unpaid order
An unpaid balance can block purchases and free downloads. Pay it, then try again.
-
4
Declined with no reason
Apple says it has no information on why a card was declined and that the card issuer does. For a Cardn3 card, ask our support.
-
5
“Purchase Not Completed”
Apple may have detected suspicious activity. Try the purchase again and follow the prompt to submit a review request to Apple Support.
