Paying on PlayStation Store with a prepaid card
PlayStation’s help pages don’t mention prepaid cards. They say the store accepts most payment cards, but some can’t be used. The main rule is region: a card registered to an address in another country may not link, so use a card from the same region as your PlayStation Store account.

- On the US page: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and Cash App Pay. Check the page for your own country. You can save up to 3 cards.
- Prepaid cards
- Not mentioned on PlayStation’s payment pages.
- Card and country
- A card registered to an address in another country may not link to your account. PlayStation says to use a card from the same region as your store, or else another payment method or a wallet top-up code.
- Card checks
- Updating payment details too often triggers a 24-hour block. Any attempt during those 24 hours starts the block again.

Type the card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing address shown with your card details, exactly as written.

Cover every charge
A prepaid card can only pay what it holds. Keep enough balance for each charge, including tax and any currency conversion.
Avoid repeated attempts. If you see “updated too often within a short amount of time”, stop and wait the full 24 hours, because each new try restarts the block.

Card from a different region

Special characters in your details
If your name or address has special characters, PlayStation suggests replacing them with the nearest plain letter. Avoid asterisks, hyphens, apostrophes and slashes.

Your account is blocked for security for 24 hours. Any new attempt restarts the 24 hours, so wait it out.

Online payments turned off
If online payments are disabled on the card, it may not register. Ask support about your card.
